I never thought that I'd wish to have a wishy-washy protagonist. Knowing that Rin has a 0% chance is just utter pain. I like Urushi but Rin is much more interesting!

Instead off all this BS the Author should kill off the MC then make this a grievance healing Yuri manga:lul:

This whole "you can keep trying if you want" dynamic just doesn't sit right with me, and it really messes with the light and fluffy vibe we have going whenever Urushi is around.
Frankly, it makes Tanaka look like a dick who can't establish boundaries because he benefits from it, and Rin like a schemer trying to tempt Tanaka away from Urushi. This is not what I want from my contrived fluffy romance SOL.

People here asking the author to put Rin out of her misery while I'm over here asking the author to put ME out of this misery. 😭😭 She's made up of pixels and lines and shit idc about her feelings C'MON

Obv I'm exaggerating my annoyance a lil bit bc it is getting tiring but tbh if I was in her place I would stop trying bc i still have self respect left in me xhxnsjxk she was rejected but was told its ok to continue expressing her feelings or whatever and she's acting all shy and flustered even after getting rejected???? Like GURL WHAT 😭😭 I could never sjskdks

It'd be one thing if the author wanted to explore how unrequited crushes fade into true friendship, I think that'd be an interesting story.

But based on this other guy's works he's clearly into slice of life gentle romance. Except here he's doing that with one guy and two different girls. It's telling kids (bluntly, this manga is aimed at 14-year-olds,) to just keep hanging around a guy who has already rejected you and is clearly interested in someone else "just because you have to remain true to your feelings."

When in reality that sort of hanger-on vibe is toxic for any friendship.

I think the interesting thing about Rin's relationship with Ayumu here is how much of a direct opposite to Urushi's relationship it is. It's probably the reason it's continuing to play out this long. I think the author wants people to have the impression there is still a chance, because from Ayumu's perspective Urushi could still decline his confession. Despite all his compliments to her all she's ever said is she likes playing chess with him.

Actually, in a weird way I could see a universe where Urushi does turn him down to get serious about being a world class chess champion and Ayumu goes on to be with Rin because she never left him despite knowing what his feelings were. It's unlikely AF, but not out of the realm of a reasonable AU ending.
