Spoiler: How it all ends

Things kind of went downhill after they introduced the MC's junior from Kendo who desperately wanted a relationship with him. She basically got strung along all the way to the end, including a part where the MC told her flat out he liked the FL but that she was welcome to try changing his mind. It really left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths.

Then series ends the chapter after he confesses to her. No hugs, no kisses, no dating, just one chapter of them meeting up after she starts college for their regular shogi match.

Just a completely disappointing ending to a series that had such promise at the start.
