You know, I think I can understand why he doesn't want to be a warrior in this life. He spent all of his past life fighting, only for all of his ambitions to be crushed in a single instance, and for his life to be ended by someone he considered a close companion. I'd probably stay away from swords after that, too.

It's also a more meaningful way to improve himself, since there's a limit to physical strength without inventing new techniques or magical stuff.

Learning etiquette and intrigue would be more useful for preventing a death at his level.
