I'm finding it extremely alarming how no one is pointing out how toxic the Commander's behavior is.
Just because he helped her out doesn't mean that he has say over her freedom.
No, her running away wasn't her being "ungrateful." Running away is the appropriate, logical, sane thing to do after a man forbids you to do anything. It's a massive red flag in any relationship.
It's that sort of entitled logic that leads guys to think that women should put out because they bought them dinner or a "gift."
And the sort of logic that leads other men to think that if they're persistent or "nice" enough, then they "deserve" to get the girl.
Just because it's a golden cage doesn't mean that she's not locked up.
Not to mention that the power dynamic here is absolutely horrible. He's the head of the knights, this world's equivalent of a police force. She cannot hide from him or seek help from the law, as he's the head of the law enforcement.
No, this is not cute. No, this is not a "romance."
This is toxic, unhealthy, controlling, possessive behavior.
Please stop romanticizing or idealising these sorts of "relationships."

Glad to see someone else feels the same way. I was pretty much gagging throughout this chapter, couldn't even finish reading it. I'm usually pretty good at disconnecting fiction from reality, usually by giving great leeway when it comes to such matters, but this was a whole nother level of ew.

Even the nice-looking art couldn't mask how creepily possessive male mc was. I would have given it a pass if there was an explicit teachable moment where female mc tells him that what he was doing was utterly wrong and detestable. But, nope!

Like the other folks here, I'm usually cool with compartmentalizing while reading manga: I can plow through stepsibling romance, emo men idolized by fan clubs, or women constantly seeking validation from guys (It comes with the genre after all).

But this right here was just disturbing enough to compel me to write this wall of text. Sigh. What a shame-- I really did find the art cute. :/
