CAST AND PIERCE, UNTIL IT IS DONE

Although I wonder how he actually managed to not die after encountering her if he was much weaker and low level at that point. Maybe his particular specialization (some sort of blood/flesh manipulation apparently) allows him to regenerate from a far wider range of damage and she assumed he was dead (and/or got immediately distracted by something stronger).

Also cool to see Fern's extreme stealth skill that came up all the way back at the very beginning of the series is still playing a serious role, allowing her to avoid magic detection even by fairly skilled counter mages.

I love how calm and collected everyone seems to be all the time when they talk.

And I love it more because is justified.

Frieren just has lived for too long.

Both her apprentice and her friend's are crazy strong and showing a cool exterior is part of their training

Especially with Frieren's because of having to put up a straight face to all her shit and randomness. That's also the reason she's way more deadpan than her partner for this mission.

The demons just because they are demons.

I liked the name Frieren at the Funeral... it made the entire series up until this point seem like in her way Frieren was still in mourning for her friends. Frieren the Slayer seems so generic...

There was a beat in chapter 5 right after Fern commented on how strangely powerful the defensive magic she was taught was to be able to defend against the majority of the offensive magic she knew before Frieren changed the subject to talk about how magic wasn’t just limited to combat. I’d say it’s true that defensive magic equipment has been made to defend against Soul Track, but I’m guessing being able to use this demon-targeting killing magic is something only immensely talented people could do.

Given that Stark also didn’t realize how powerful he was until he one-shotted the dragon terrorizing the village he was staying at, it makes sense that Fern would also be OP without knowing it herself. I’m guessing Frieren deliberately taught her wrong as a joke because of her earlier worries of mage disciples dying frequently on the battlefield. Probably wants Fern to think she’s only learned the basics so that she’ll act prudently.

@Eksentrysti She is a prodigy, you don't become an apprentice to at the time (possibly still) greatest magician of all time if you aren't a prodigy they see immense potential in.

Just that Frieren just continued working hard for a thousand years studying magic. Just her sense of time is so different from everyone else so when she casually learns some random magic she can spend 6 months on it human mages would spend a few days or a week for.

what is your proof? just because she percieves time differently doesn't mean she is a dimwitted person.

It's... it's beautiful...

I can't believe I discovered this series only now. I am very relieved to hear it's received well in Japan, because losing such an amazing manga to the axe is a very frightening idea.
I love how the melancholy of a near immortal life is portrayed in the earliest chapters. Frieren is a very interesting main character, especially when she's flanked by the other cast members. The manga always manages to subtly (and not so subtle) point out what it truly means to have a lifespan several hundred times longer compared to almost every other life on the planet.
Another thing the author has done a tremendous job with are the demons. Not only are they once again the ultimate enemy of all humankind, it was especially genius to make them natural predators of said human race. The demons feel completely alien to the audience. They have no human emotions, and whenever they act like they do it's just for us to lower our defenses and go in for the kill.

It was a blast to binge read this series, but now I have to join the rest of you all and wait for the next release.

Oh, what a cursed existence.
