If i remember correctly from the Web Novel, your corrections are basically what happened. The previous "messengers" would try to sneak away back through the forest and were killed by monsters.

I'm pretty sure this line was suggesting that they tried to sneak out of the country, like Scipo0419 said, but the grammar in this TL is so cooked it's hard to tell. I have no issue with people using MTL as a tool, but WalterScans has quite clearly just copy-pasted whatever word soup Google vomited out onto the page with no proofreading. This page is all the proof you need, there's 0 chance it would make sense to anybody with even a tenuous grasp on the English language - plus all the incorrect pronouns like you mentioned ("I wasn't allowed to call himself an alchemist" from the previous part comes to mind. Really?).
