from what I remember, saving all lives seems to be the excuse to fight alone. he has no attachments to the people lost fighting the first time. he is not interested in finding the killers who killed people on the spot from the people around him. I think losing people to monsters in a "war scenario" is better than losing people because of some crazy teammates. Im not sure if there were two or just one wanting to sacrifice all other humans for a better reward, but yes, I think lost lives give this story a purpose, but saying he wants to save all lives because he is the "good guy" is somewhat strange. these people would do it again, and finding a solution to this problem would be more interesting, in my opinion, than fighting a boss who was killed easily with teamwork in the first place. when the first problem is fixed, you can save (was it 24 hours staying in a room or something like this?) and keep telling the people he would have lost what they could do better not to die. so he could min-max without wasting too much time. but yeah, what I remember, I strongly believe that the MC did this for his own gain. From our perspective as readers, it looks overcomplicated. But i kinda don’t think it is???
why do you think he chose that path, and what would have been simpler? To simply shrug off deaths as a reasonable loss? In most cases, this would be true, the real world wouldn’t be so nice.
But dude, he’s got a cheat, he’s gonna abuse it. And it’s not like he changed his goal constantly it’s always been the same getting casualties down to a minimum. People, given a simple objective, can be really, really stubborn.
Prime example:
He’s just doing what speedrunners do when they get a new game, run it back time and time again until they have all the info and perfect the execution. He goes the extra mile and cares for the people because they ARE real people, but in the end, his goal is 0 casualties and so resetting is optimal.
