so...how screwed up am I as a person if I think her reaction to his room was cute in spite of the scenario leading up to it?

Pretty good, picking the lock with a pair of chopsticks...
Maybe not, but they sure look like chopsticks to me!

Just how often do stalkers find real evidence that the object of their obsession is seriously attracted to them?
Of course she's ecstatic!
I must agree, the blush combined with the slightly creepy look on her face does have a charm quite it's own.

if you look at the first panel, it's a proper set of lock picks...they usually have one end with odd shapes which vary in usefulness depending on the shape, age, and type of lock, but aside from the shaped ends, they are just thin sticks of metal...on a good day I could pick a lock like she did in ~20 seconds...if you know what you are doing, it's not actually that hard...it's just that unless you have a job that gives reason, it's hard to obtain and learn to use proper lock picks (it's funny, but most makers of lock picks don't really want to sell to you unless you have proof that you have a legal use for them), in my case, I used to work with my step-father taking care of foreclosed properties for banks, and we often picked the door lock, cause the people kicked out usually wouldn't leave a key and it was both faster and easier than destroying the doorknob (and meant we didn't have to replace the whole doorknob, just the internal lock parts)...and it was a royal pain in the ass to get in without picking if they left a locked deadbolt too

I suspected they probably were proper lock picks, but couldn't resist, given that in the frame he used them they looked very much like a pair of metal chopsticks that I own.

The impression I'd gotten over the years was along the lines of what you related; given the proper tools and training, standard flat key locks are not difficult to get through rapidly without damaging them.
Some of the other style locks would be more difficult, but they also cost a lot more to purchase and install, so you don't come across them in everyday use.

I remember the Mythbusters episode where they demonstrated just how easy it is to bypass a fingerprint scanner on a PC if you can obtain a clean print from the relevant finger and do just a little work to clean up the image you produce from it.

I'd also gotten the impression that this was an area where the manufacturers did recognize that the only use for these tools was to circumvent security, so were a tad careful concerning who they sold to, for a variety of reasons.

I seriously doubt those are actual lock picks
- you use two tools at the same time for basic lock picking, a lock pick and a tension wrench, No one would make a tension wrench like that
- proper lock-picks are generally pretty small, and have actual handles
Also, you can buy lock-picks on amazon for ~10-20 dollars and, I don’t know about other countries, but they are legal to possess in most us states
