In case you forgot back when the twins were both still alive. He told both of them that essentially he was their dead father. That's why they were able to get so close in the first place.

And if you want to look at it from a different perspective, both of them died but through the divine trees hard work. He essentially birth both of them back into the real world and then combined them making them quite literally their parent.
