I'm not sure what intimacy they're engaging in, since it's mostly glossed over and they're hinting in different directions, but at least he's not too flustered over it. Though rejecting her at that moment is probably appropriate, since she's doing it out of obligation, compared to tiger girl who's more casually flirting.
That template is so annoying. It's like the entitled sibling or best friend who think they get to make decisions for someone else and decide who's worthy. Just a dumb roadblock. Sure, with kids a father should have some say, but she's in her sixties.
