If I may offer a suggestion, instead of adding an asterisk with translators notes every time a piece of Japanese pop culture crops up, instead leave it as is, and add a page after the chapter explaining what each of the references were. This way, the constant translators notes don't hurt the immersion, and people who wish to understand the cultural references deeper get the option to really dig into it with more detailed descriptions after the chapter.

thanks for the suggestions!
the authors themselves put explanations on the spaces between the panels so i guess it's inline with the author's intention but i get where you're coming from. i don't like it either when the pages are littered with crap that's why i delete the unnecesarry magazine stuff beside the panels.
the next chapter is almost finished, but after that i'll put everything at the back and we'll se how it will work out.
