There is a difference between wanting to look good for others and just liking how you look and wanting to fit it in somehow into your life. Being a blue collar worker, the only times he can wear what he likes (formal suits) is when he has time off, so he does that. Had your opinion been the case, he would've instead found a way to show off at work too, since those are the eyes that are most frequently on him, or even just done anything besides having a meal.
Menswear is a hell of a hobby. You be a blue collar man just wanting a single proper tailored suit at first and next thing you know you're pondering over textures, layering & pattern combos and have more suits than the amount of time you would need them in a year
