this is why i said "much of the terrible crimes," no? cause IT'S NOT just child abuse, but apparently all sorts of bs (like the infamous groping on the trains) that goes unreported. and THAT makes it very much, "haha japan" cause i haven't heard about such a big variety of crimes that ppl just get away with anywhere else in the world.

Your impression of Japan is affected by the easily digestible medium of manga you're reading it in. How often do people discuss the missing children, child abuse, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, drug abuse, and fraud cases that you don't hear about in other countries BECAUSE they're unreported and not enough people hear about it.

Do you think there might be less reported cases of abuse in another country because there are less cases, or is it because they aren't reported? You don't really know.
How many reporters and victims are falling over themselves trying to raise awareness for their issues. In contrast, Japan has a much higher awareness of these topics because a lot of writers write about it as a plot device.

Anyway my point is consider to it a mandela effect, where you're more likely to be aware of perceived issues in Japan because you read Manga. I mean, how often are you reading realistic fiction set in America? if you can call a romantic comedy Manga that.
Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Guessing next chapter will have MC getting Yuri's backstory, which will be important, as the future vision he currently has doesn't show who the victim is, and it's only through some context that he will figure out who the actual victim is.

As annoying as Yuri can be, her family is much worse, as we see her mother treating her like trash. Yes, Yuri does snap at the MC quite a bit, but I think that's actually out of character for her, as she likely was an ice queen at baseline, and normally would've stayed away from the MC after the initial incident instead of interacting with him.
