Why would he date Hashiba? He's never shown any interest in that direction. If anything, he's going to be with Yui, only to realize they don't actually fit (despite commenters thinking they do)- he'll just break her heart, just like Honoka... and he is, once again, still in love with Suzuka, and was meant to grow with her, instead of stagnate (at least... I'm still assuming she's still the intended endgame, and he just wasn't actually taking the relationship seriously enough). He kept being reluctant to advance the relationship, or really improve in any real way. She was giving him openings and suggestions, but he just kept floundering about and waffling, like he always has in the past.
I was exactly in the same state with my ex- she was encouraging me to do more, but I just... wasn't. We quite rapidly got into a cohabitation situation, and jumped intimacy levels, partly because we had known each other for so long already... but then it just plateaued. I basically went into a holding pattern for two years, stagnating, while she was addressing her own issues and trying to become more independent, so that we were equally contributing to our situation... but I wasn't dealing with my own issues, or improving professionally. I didn't take heed of her encouragement to both take care of my own mental health properly as well as improve our love life. So many things I realized I should have been doing, but I just wasn't in the headspace to deal with it.
Yamato still has so much more growing left to do, just like I did.
