When it comes to apples, Minnesota, USA is the place to be. The University of Minnesota genetically engineers about two new apple breeds per year, and roughly 7-15 years later you can start buying them at stores (sometimes sooner at fairs or orchards).
The Honey crisp is probably the best, but a new apple, the SweeTango, really gives it a run for its money.
