One small suggestion, if I may. For the pig latin, use a hyphen before the last syllable, so in this instance instead of 'overlay' it would read 'over-lay.' That helps show it's not necessarily the word it appears to be otherwise. The few times I've seen pig latin in print this is generally how it's shown.

There's a lot of things about this that make me think I'm going to love it. Jazz, post-war Japan, messy interpersonal drama. Reminds me of my favorite of all time Kids on the Slope. But I also think this has a lot more violence and trauma, which I'm dreading.

My gut tells me her older sister was raped by American servicemen. And this grumpy bass player is pure jerk so far. I guess I'm hoping for a happy ending for Tora, and that I don't have to read too much horror.
