By the by, contrary to popular beliefs, gladiators aren't usually sent to fight to the death...I mean, it's cost prohibitive since the owners had to put a lot of time, effort and money into getting them into shape. And if they do die, the sponsor had to compensate for the lost gladiator. Bare in mind the games are almost always out of the sponsor's pocket.
