Please keep the hair down, please keep the hair down. Though I am guessing it is only down because she is.

That publisher's office would say not to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, just let that sink in

Serious question: Would an editor actually tell someone to change their entire art style like that?

I'm pretty curious if this is actually an event that happens.

@Virtyuu I do 3-D work, and it's kind of similar. They ask you to work in a certain style that matches theirs. If you don't have anything that does already in your portfolio, then if they are really intrested in you then they'll ask you to basically take a test to see if you can do it. If you can't, they won't hire you. Obviously, I can't perfectly equate the 2 careers, but I would have to imagine it's vaguely similar at least.

although some people can handle it, many artists struggle with being a sellout. Sure you have to make a living, but compromising your art for money will always diminish your passion. Pretty cool arc especially considering this is a grassroots pixiv artist who eventually got serialized

@PhoenixDen That's pretty interesting actually. I imagine doing a bunch of different styles can actually help you gain experience in the field but I'm sure being forced to can be pretty unpleasant when you have your own style already set.

Hoping Nikaidou secretly took Tadokoro's art and shopped it around + found an editor who'd take it.

Only having one style in art is similar to only being experienced in one specific field when it comes to the market.
If a specialist is searched for and your style happens to be the sought after speciality, you're in luck.
It's just way more difficult to find clients if you can only offer one type of service.
I've seen a few artists who fancy a variety of styles either because they like to experiment with style or because they know learning different style will broaden their market opportunities.
It's really hard to open up yourself and try something out of your comfort zone when it comes to art, because many artists have a very personal attachment to their style and don't want to sway from it, because it feels like betraying yourself. It's not wrong to stick to a very personalized style, but I have mad respect for artists who constantly leave their comfort zone and surprise me with something I never would have expected to see from them.
