but it's still broken as hell, because even if you can't hurt your attacker, there are still many ways to retaliate as long as you live

You don't have to kill the attacker, just capture them. Then you get the added bonus of executing them in front of a crowd which should deter further attempts.

I've always just assumed it takes forever to cast that kind of magic so it's just used to enchant certain areas. It is weird they wouldn't use it on the castle or a personal home though
