Not quite, dont forget mc had intense training under his butler who is a friend of the knight commander (and probably was a knight himself) and the original mc supposedly has had no training, just the fact mc had to get serious is already concerning.

Something you have to set up for the competition, and burns out within a few minutes.

To use it outside the competition grounds you'd need multiple wizards casting it around the clock. It could be done, but hiring that many wizards would cost so much that nobody could do it. And no, you can't force the guys who are preserving your life to do so, because that would just encourage them not to do it. To deliberately lapse just at the right, or wrong, moment.

Like The Academy's Genius Swordsman, where both the MC, and his rival/frenemy, are battle junkies who live to fight. MC has cheat skills, but the rival may actually be a more naturally talented swordsman. Sort of a Goku/Vegeta dynamic.
