I understand wanting to continue what the last scanlator did with the funky font to denote when they're speaking in another language, but I agree that it's hard on the eyes. I'd settle for just putting brackets around the sentence, or finding another font that's just Different But Readable, instead of focusing on looking Oriental.

Even if you have no intention of consummating the work, it's a sheer joy to see one of my favorite manga, by one of my favorite mangaka, resume translation after so many years. Also, to attempt to answer your question at the end of the chapter, I think the font Osterman used was Love Letter TW (aka the Serial Experiments Lain font). I could be wrong though, and I don't think your choice was inappropriate or any less suitable.
