It‘s not about being rational, it‘s about being realistic. We saw that the MC, despite the teenage edginess, loved her father. This nonchalant attitude when confronted with his disfigured corpse is very unrealistic and off-putting and drives a wedge between her and the reader. Maybe that‘s what Paru intended, but if not then it‘s bad writing. She‘s certainly not gonna be a Legosi, that‘s already clear.
And she also loved her dog, which the story was also pretty clear about, hence her subsequent actions to prevent her dog from being put down by authorities. And she wasn't nonchalant in her attitude when she first encountered her father's corpse, she was in shock.

How did you manage to gather that she loves her father but not that she loves the dog just as much when they're both stated in one simple line?

That aside, it looks like the plot of this manga's going to devolve into some depraved nonsense very soon. Why Ao thought hiding the body of her father to protect her pet instead of calling the police and telling them what happened, I'll never know. Then again, there wouldn't be a story if she did the former... but, if the story hinges on her doing the former--which is clearly a dumb decision nobody would ever do--it should've hinged on her doing something else but the former.

The only other thing I can think of is it's a set-up and Taika got manipulated somehow.

that is absolutely not true..
I would do the same..
and I'm willing to bet Paru would as well..
it's obviously the right decision in that situation.

Very interesting chapter one. I like Taika and Ao from the start of this chapter. The killing stuff is probably a cover up, someone kill the father, mostly a beastman, and they rip her face off and at some point Taika lick his owner so thats why the blood is in his mouth.
I dont understand ppl who cant understand Ao behaviour. Psychology always says that the person vs a VERY stressful situation = any answer the person can perform/think related at the life experience they had. If somehow our pets kill like a person/animal we all will behave differently. We can broke at that moment, we can be very angry, we can kill ur pet, we can forgive them... All is on us to decide and act. And we can try to justify ur behavior, or not. Is like the case of Rizz in Beastars, how he try to justify for eating tem when another action can be turn himself up, teach with a professor, or his roomates... all is possible.

Especially with author comment from Paru Itagaki at the end of this debut chapter.

And the cover art with the handcuffs acting as a collar is definitely kinky imagery.
Her comment does suggest the manga is gonna get even more disturbing with time, but I think the handcuffs thing is just referring to the fact that Ao is Taika's accomplice, and that if he goes down, she'll go down with him.

Oh it’s that too (even primarily that), but it also almost certainly kinky imagery at the same time as well.

Looking at the kind of stuff you usually leave comments on, I can see why you'd struggle to grasp the complexity of her situation...
Wow, so nice of you to throw a unnecessary shade at someone after judging them by latest two or three comments they've left on the latest updates.

I simply like to comment a lot of stuff and that does not correlate to anything. Sorry for having a wide pallate of taste, lmao.

It correlates to that "wide palate" of yours striking badly more often than not, which my belief in has now been reinforced by your updated profile icon...

Honestly though, if you're gonna leave a comment as dumb as asking what her train of thought was when it's explained directly with no subtext in the chapter, you should be expecting some level of snarky response. There's literally nothing of contention in your original comment that wasn't explained directly with words in the chapter. For someone with a "wide palate", it sure seems like you're not great at reading. Maybe it's easier to enjoy a wider range of things when you don't comprehend most of it... 🙃
