Oh they met when they were younger. Great. Awesome. Cool beans. I can’t say I love the cliche’d development, but it’s cute. The problem is, it’s kinda pointless, and slightly takes away from their previous experiences. Before it felt nice and like she was just randomly his shy fan and he grew to like her as they interacted. Now we learn she helped him when they were younger, which doesn’t really add to the weight of their romance, but at the same time feels like it’s telling readers you need to have a special bond with your partner from more than a decade ago to feel true love. It’s like watching your hero grow from nothing and become a legend, and then later finding out he was the super special awesome whatever and always destined for greatness. It both changes nothing and ruins everything. Of course this isn’t nearly to that extent, but it does feel pretty pointless and a wasteful. All that said it is still really cute to see them as kids, so I’ll just call it a necessary evil and move on
