But randomly shutting down for no reason? if she shut down because her parents are not her biological parents. Then Most people would still cling or talk to the parents that are still there for them. Not feel like a slave to their new parents. So let me get this straight. the person she finally opened up to. she literally threw away to appease the parents that just want her to be happy? 🤨 This is really bad writing.

Just because she didn't act in a way you would or you seem reasonable doesn't make it bad writing. A kid who was adopted and had an established role that she was going to be the inheritor of the family company understandably feels indebted to their parents. Him telling her to lock down her feelings to be like him, it makes sense that she would take that to heart especially as a child. A couple side remarks about how she can be more open to what she wants won't automatically flip a switch to have her start acting completely different to what she was told/deemed necessary.
