The line between talent and intelligence is not clearly defined. There are many arguments as to which is which in a given scenario. There is also quite a lot of overlap between the two. The original comment you were replying to was likely complaining about the story concept itself. That which is implied by the title, not the title in and if itself.

A mary sue protagonist results in a story that is predictable, cliche, and patronizing. A protagonist doesn't need to suffer horribly to avoid being a self insert. A main character should be well developed enough that you empathize with them rather than projecting onto them.

The more you read, the less patience you will have for series like this one. Stories that exist solely as wish fulfillment will begin to feel hollow and gross. You will move onto to more interesting works.
