You know, in most stories the paparazzi character would be a dark mirror to the other characters about how their obsession with Miyama Yuri and their roundabout tactics in trying to find out if Rio is her are destructive to themselves and others.

But in this gag manga the last 4 or so degenerates who showed up have just made each other worse so who knows.

It's a good question. I think that there are worse harms that can be committed by other roles, but not necessarily. A C.E.O. could be an exploitative creep, or they could be a good boss. Same for PR or Lawyers or the dance instructor, etc.

Paparazzi, the whole gig is steeped in invading people's privacy. I think that helps make them so universally hated. No one can imagine a paparazzi who is both good at their job and a decent human being.

The follow-up question is, have any sleazy practices in the entertainment industry become so widespread that they're considered an inseparable part of the job? Harsh body/image training, low artist pay, poor streaming royalties, A.I. stealing stuff, Artists being forced to sign their IP over to the company, stars being pushed into 'hostess' duties with investors, committing tax fraud...
