She has literally said in the past the reason she stopped making the comic was because the Chinese government told her to stop.

Things seem to have gotten less restrictive in recent years, but you still see kisses and stuff being censored all the time in LGBT media coming out of China.

Censorship is not always consistent, so the existence of other series doesn't mean much. There are documented issues there around representation and censorship. I'm not sure why this debate continues.

People will make excuses about the GL in this series dropping to "best friends" due to censorship(BS when compared to what other chinese GL get away with), but seeing how this author handles any type of plot or development in this series I can only believe that they just chickened out and rather stick to making potential meme content rather than a cohesive story.
