What is with these Chinese characters (MC and mobs both). Authors love to make em get offended over literally anything.
"You looked at me! I will fight you to the death!"
"You scored two points higher than me! I will fight you to the death!"
"You teased me a few times! I will fight you to the death!"
Part of why I have a more difficult time finding tolerable Chinese manhua.

I've always hoped that it wasn't a Chinese culture thing and more of some undeveloped story-telling trope.

it is a staple of cultivation/Wuxia manga, and is partly a cultural thing I'm afraid.

You would imagine cultivating for 100+ years would make you more cautious and less of an asshole.
( with the whole " power coming from enlightenment " thing. )
but sadly that Is rarely the case just to easily bring the MC into conflict multiple times while keeping the moral high ground.

Wuxia typically has a lot of characters who are "evil for the sake of evil."
and a lot of times that is on a global scale to the point it can get ridiculous just to make easy conflicts because of pride.
It is why the " you are courting death" is such a meme and is my biggest gripe with cultivation stories...
That said, there are quite a few stories out there where the author does not overuse the trope.

Also to turn this whole thing back to the story, I would say she is justified being miffed at the MC.
There was no need for him to be snide and rude to her just because she had a better lot in life.
It is hardly her fault for being born lucky and MC is also blessed with a system so he kinda lost the moral high ground here...

Also, he is intentionally defensive and secretive in a place where normally he would have no business being there.
so obviously you would get curious about what the hell he is up to.
