I have read this chapter several times but I am still wondering how he killed the dragon.
Like, it could have been the stone he raised up, but I am pretty sure the report would have said "Dragon got hit by a rock" instead of "it exploded".

My guess is that the magic is meant to fling up rocks from the ground with quite a bit of speed.
Now normally, those rocks are small enough and the speed slow enough for it to only stun an enemy, but his magic lifted a mountain and sent it flying quite fast. (That speed part is conjecture, since it's not shown explicitly)
That dragon then probably jhust happened to be in its path and when they collided, both the dragon and the mountain exploded (possibly as a side effect of the dragon's power-up as well)
