Interesting twist, though I'm still not the biggest fan of Kuroki and Eri. I imagine the whole thing is a product of Eri's naivete rather than something the mangaka was seriously building towards.

@SuperOniichan Even if it's alright for an adult to date a barely legal girl, in this situation it violates the teacher's position of trust and is therefore illegal.

@Pastellix Does the law explicitly prohibit this? If it's legal, then I'm not interested in talking about abstract things like "power dynamics" or "teacher's trust."

@SuperOniichan It isn't explicitly mentioned, but in basically every province teachers are required by law to behave in the best interest of a child. A relationship isn't in the best interest of a student, since the power dynamics and emotional volatility make the student easy to manipulate.

I can't speak for Japan, but here in Australia there are tight restrictions which prohibit this behaviour until the student is 18 years of age. While it's still deplorable for a teacher to date an 18-year-old, it's a bit of a grey area since they are technically a legal adult at that age.

y'all missed the point of the chapter. The new teacher also had a crush on Kuroki when she was a student (thus "the me from back then"), and she thinks that Eri will also go through the same heartbreak she did, so she was advising her to spend her youth chasing love with her peers instead. She just said it in an awkward way, that's all.
