Seriously, why in the nine hells would you use "witch" instead of the correct "bitch"?

We get it is a free TL and it is amazing work but that kind of thing is so ridiculous that it has to be called out whenever it happens so it stops happening.

Do the TL right. Don't go woke. It is a fate worse than death.

I have been following this series since ch 1 and my question is: when MC gonna be strong geez?
He always get his ass kicked everytime. His curse series kinda neat, but why that big momma chicken has to lock it goddamn. And why they have to reset his level too.

At this point the story becomes counterproductive. What's the point making him a hero to save the world just to deprive him on any power to do it.

Man, i miss the old Naofumi. Such dedication such vigor such drive. I can't even remember the last time Naofumi actually trying to level up his shield and get a new shield.

Thanks for the chapter, Tanooki.

blud u r far too chuuni for this world lmfao

He (?) is not wrong, though. It's extremely common for JP male protagonists to lack not only agency, but masculinity--particularly masculine strength. This comprises not only physical strength mainly proven through offensive capability (notice how Naofumi, generally, cannot attack) but also an active state of being: by design, Naofumi's actions are generally passive--he waits for attacks, he takes attacks, and he usually can't do much actively outside of providing support. The activity, the counterpart to Naofumi, is in Raphtalia--who wields the sword Naofumi cannot. A less direct reversal of roles (women aren't strong enough, by nature, to take Naofumi's role), but a reversal nevertheless.

Unless the Curse series empowers him to act more directly. That's where things change, but only for reasons explicitly shown and stated to be unfavorable/objectionable/immoral--even then, Naofumi does not have total control over those powers, and has to fear them. A message is being sent here.

Aside from that, the only times Naofumi isn't acting passively is when he's interacting with people--talking with people, strategizing, governance, telling them how stupid/foolish/evil they are, et cetera. Even so, the only one of these that isn't less masculine in a setting where battle is regular is his strategizing and governance--and even active combatants like swordfighters can do these (which Eclair is supposed to do).

This is also an illustration of what I'm talking about.

Despite what I said, the author did counterbalance Naofumi's inherent passivity with the aforementioned strategizing, governance, and his refusal to submissively take the nonsense of the world around him. You could say that the Wrath shield was the one element most representative of that last one, too. The author is following the aforementioned weak/passive MC formula to the letter however, and this is the result: an MC who is designed to take punishment, who gains interesting and unusual powers that allow him to do more than just take punishment, and who subsequently loses them--thereby becoming an ostensibly powerless (until the plot demands otherwise) punching bag. After his reset, the only thing that's left of his combat ability is his ability to take punishment, some skills, and his need to stand behind his female companions as they deal with the threats they face. Even fueeeRishia is becoming exceptionally competent on the battlefield due to her Hengen Musou training--that makes Naofumi look much worse, as he's now even weaker in his claim to fame. Due to his passive combat style, he has always needed to have someone like Raphtalia put an end to their adversaries (ignoring the more extraordinary cases), but at least his powers on top of his character made up for it. The loss of the former makes his passivity that much more apparent.

Like I've said elsewhere, the purpose of that formula is apparently to vilify masculine agency--to demonize individualistic self-sufficiency and agency in favor of an effeminate dependence on a group. Together with the ability to harmlessly take copious amounts of punishment (remember, a good MC doesn't kill, or even truly repay wrongdoing--just look at Bitch, even though that's the product of the writing itself, if not Naofumi's will), and you have a good, obedient corporate drone, unlikely to make any waves no matter what happens to him. Those are preferred in the Japanese workplace.

1. Go read a Manwha for OP mc.
2. Soon a shield will get a power up, for a price.

I am not looking for Naofumi to be OP. I just want Naofumi stop being kicked in the ass everytime. That's all.

Yeah, i read that many times before here. In spoiler tag that is. You better cover the second point in spoiler tag.
