Imagine doing such quality work each and every chapter.

Glad to see Emma's POV and get an actual admission from her. And I like the mirroring of them and the movie, and how their respective reception of that one scene informs how they react when Suzu's cousin appears, and in the aftermath of the karaoke bar.

Part of me wonders if Emma merely has to properly confess, if she were to be relentless and actively pursue Suzu, if Suzu would relent, and seek her as a way to finally move past Yuki. But I also know the heart is a fickle thing, and she's too in love and too heartbroken to see Emma as anything more than a momentary distraction.

So both are heartbroken, and while it's a snap judgment, I think Emma has it worse--because she both "gets the girl", but only as a façade, at best.
Great stuff.

Thanks for your TL work as always. Will happily and patiently looking forward to the next chapter.

On page 42, Emma says, "Imagine me to be someone who likes you," but that really doesn't make any sense, does it? Shouldn't it be something like "Imagine me as the person you love?"

no, I think it's intentional.

Your version would be effectively be Emma saying "Suzu, imagine me as Yuki."
But part of Suzu's pain comes from the fact that Yuki doesn't love her.

So Emma is saying "Suzu, imagine me as someone who likes you (back)", effectively making the fantasy one of reciprocal attraction--which satisfies Suzu's problems with her love being one-sided.

Also, Emma very much doesn't want to simply be a substitute for Yuki. She wants to be someone that Suzu loves, as well (or rather, instead)--so including the implied "treat me like I'm Yuki" into the fantasy between them wouldn't satisfy Emma's own desires.

Also coming back after thinking on it more -

Emma also has her "princely" image around the academy to consider, potentially. I'm sure the other students wouldn't balk at Emma & Suzu becoming an official couple, but she might feel some sort of responsibility to remain "untethered", as it were, because she has so many fans. (Like the whole idol/oshi thing over in Japan; can't have actual relationships because the 'illusion' has to remain intact for all the people who support them. Just a guess and wouldn't be surprised if I were wrong, but her attitude and interactions with other students in the first chapter make me wonder.)

Additionally, we know there's something going on in Emma's personal life related to her family, insofar as it might relate to who they are - "noble lineage" was thrown around at the start, and that may not factor in really, unless Yuama decides to go the "noble daughter has to go the arranged-marriage route" or something. Or, it could easily be she has a conservative family that wouldn't approve of a gay daughter.
Either way - there's probably a more substantial reason why Emma feels that Suzu wouldn't reciprocate her feelings. She vaguely mentions that being her situation back in chapter 1, but there's no elaboration that I've seen in the subsequent chapters.

But, Emma clearly has a reputation. Nako-senpai, who also attends Hibiscus and is Suzu's coworker at her cafe job, makes that threat to Emma to not hurt Suzu/play with Suzu's feelings back in chapter 2. So Nako has a pretty clear image of Emma in her mind, which makes me also wonder if maybe Emma thinks Suzu wouldn't take any confession coming from her seriously. Like, she's such a flirt & constantly teasing/not "showing her true side", that she's lost all credibility when she tries to be authentic. So, painted herself into a corner and can't get out of it, type thing.

Now that we have Emma's own feelings overtly expressed though, I suspect we'll get more of her POV going forward to balance out the focus on Suzu's internal narrative and thoughts, which should give more insight into her situation and what obstacles sit between her and the one she wants.
