i evidently did, because i beat her around an hour after that comment - am now stuck learning last judge.

i only managed to beat widow after i realised i should stay on the ground while avoiding the bells in the final phase, that way i can actually jump over her when she does her flurry attack. that and getting into the mindset of chipping away at her health while focusing on survival instead of the good ol' HK strategy of "whaling on the boss and tanking some hits until they eventually die" - because hornet isn't as much of a as the knight, who can facetank basically anything so long as you do enough dps to make your enemy die before you (which hornet can't do because she can barely deal any damage).

not yet. i decided to finish up other parts of act 1 before i beat last judge - primarily wishes, sinner's road, wormways, the crawbug gauntlet, and an attempt at hunter's march.

update: I've now finally gotten into act 2, however i have still yet to beat last judge lmao

Spoiler: how i got to this state

i was trying to finish up hunter's journal entries in sinner's road (emphasis on "trying") when i noticed a suspicious-looking wall, which turned out to be an entrance to bilewater. dozens of deaths and a flea later, i got to the bellway and a bench (was using the one in sinner's road up until that point), then somehow made it through an area called the mist ("somehow" being google), got another flea, and finally fought phantom (which was quite an enjoyable fight, unlike last judge or widow) - giving me access to the citadel and act 2.

the nice thing about doing it this way is that literally the first room you get to in the citadel is the one with the bellway, a bench, a ventrica, and the citadel's map - literally everything you could ever want in a new area, and which i would've had to cross the entire place to find if i were to instead come in from the last judge fight.

Ooh right, you can enter this way too. That's when the game really rewards you for exploring. I remember when I had to look for everything and (of course) my rosaries were kind of non-existent. Painful. But yeah, I also found phantom to be more enjoyable (or at least easier to understand) than the other two. No bells hitting you everywhere lol

You'll eventually come across a pretty annoying arena and a little tip, use your tools. It was only then (and after countless deaths) when I really noticed how much easier you can make the game for yourself 😭

finally beat tlj yesterday (or technically earlier today, but you get the idea) - though i only bothered to do it after beating grand mother silk lmao. now i just have act 3 left - but uni's starting back up this week, so unfortunately i don't think I'll have the time to finish it anytime soon

Oh nice, act 2 done. Beating the game is already an accomplishment. I still have most of act 3 left myself lol

Yeah, the one you basically need for one of the melodies. Died much more than I should have until I actually started using my tools lmao

the high halls one? yeah it kicked my ass until i "cheesed" it by getting shakra to "help" (do over 90% of the work) while i stuck high up on one of the walls with ascendant's grip while occasionally throwing out tacks and keeping a cogfly or two out. i genuinely don't think i could've beaten it myself in a reasonable amount of time.

Yeah, would have saved me so much time if I knew you could just do that 😭
But well, if I do another playthrough I won't have to go through all that again. Cogfly has been my fav tool since then haha.
