Last chapter he said he 'lived that way for fifty years', which i thought meant after his awakening at 13 in the akagi prequel so i assumed he was 63, but the Akagi manga takes place '13 years after the end of the Pacific War' (1945) so given the date here he actually is 53 at the end of Ten.

Rereading this part after so long still makes me cry.

Although circumstances around his death are regrettable, it's still what anyone could wish for, to be complete, and calmly scatter to the wind.
