I think the author found a good compromise between erotic and wholesome, drama and wish-fullfilment so far.
It is quite funny that the guy seemed to want an harem but ended up a social outcast, still I think so far it has handled in an interesting way.

I think is to make it sound weird to the girl, she replied with the same word she doesn't know, we call them japanese, they call themselves nihon in their own language, maybbe the translator wanted to keep that, and it worked.

I'm more wondering about elf-mam, not sure if her hair turned black or it was just the light.
