The first chapter is lovely and heartwarming.

...Then things go absolutely bonkers and every character (except the little kid) is revealed to be kind of seriously messed in the head in some way or another, and it's really quite harrowing. The stranger danger is really strong with this one; I think the author thinks it's cute how rape-y some of the characters are sometimes, alas.

The main couple on the other hand are both nice people who... accept everything terrible that those around them try to do, without questioning it and indeed carefully rationalizing the wrongs done to them, in a pretty horrifying way.

Towards the end it sometimes tries to gaslight you into thinking that everyone was just being considerate all along.

The mix of heartwarming stuff and normalized creepyness in this, is the stuff of tepid nightmares.

I really love this manga, it has a unique story dynamic and heartwarming feelings. There are a few common tropes but it's really unusual in how steadfast and emotionally mature the main character is.

I have been alerted that my previous post was considered spoilers. I'm still not totally convinced it was, but I certainly see how it might be read as such... Anyway that's not the point.

With the whole comment spoiler-ed, I would just like to re-iterate that unlike @AnOddPerson, when I read this a year ago, I found much of this manga to be a mildly upsetting, for reasons. Well, reasonable opinions may differ and all that. But I feel some sort of un-spoiler-ed warning is merited for those who might react to it as I did.

For an ever-so-slightly-more-vague complaint (the original comment was sort of a rant anyway ^^; ):
This manga has multiple characters doing, well, somewhat not-nice things to the protagonists, who I felt sort of roll over and accept the bad things done to them and even somewhat rationalize the abuse, and the author seemed to double down on the idea that nothing done was wrong and all the bad things were totally well-intentioned. In a manner which I found somewhat rather disturbing and somewhat upsetting at the time.

The art is pretty. The story... well Pokari describes it perfectly.

@Pokari agreed! I don't think its a spolier to say that there are multiple instances of harassment in this manga that are portrayed as non-problematic in a "boys will be boys" type of way. 🙄 not cool.

I guess it’s... fine. I just wish we got more of the couple and the youngest brother, the other two are... strange and lackluster, to say the least.
