Please stop that chaotic discussion, explain why you think Sky Burial is weird, and second group explain why he should not feel weirded by this. It's easy to explain why Sky Burial is used in some places. Throwing "it's their culture!" around is not an answer. Don't generalize and attack "westerners" (whatever that even means) or person in question.

I don't really give a shit if you're upset that Westerners think shit you do is weird, if we wanna talk about it, we will, and you can talk about the stuff we do that YOU think is weird. And yes, a lot of Asian customs are weird. Everyone's got some weird ones. One of the Western civilization ones is the freedom of speech to talk about whatever we want.

People obviously haven't done much research on sky burial if they think it's so fucked up. Most, if not all the people in Tibet are Buddhist, and it's against religion to bury the body. Instead, you're expected to cremate, but fuel is already a scarce resource that you need for cooking etc. Either way, burial isn't an option and because a lot of these people live so high up in the mountains, the oxygen content and cold basically eliminates any decomposition even if you just left them out in the open. Ever read about the bodies on Mt. Everest? They last forever. So the best option is sky burial because it ensures you don't just have bodies laying around.

It's one thing to feel uncomfortable but you don't have the right to act like your culture is better just because you don't like something. Especially when you barely know anything about it.

@Vickamoose At least one sensible person who explained this. Thank you so much! It's not a damn cultural thing, it's the place you live in which dictates what you can and what you can't do. Just like places in Scandinavia which disallow burying people because they wouldn't decompose.

Nothing wrong with a bit if sky burial. And then eating the vultures that ate the body. And then having the ghosts of the Soviet soldiers you killed curse you from the afterlife for eating their bodies.

@artuga it's so easy to hit on the "everyone is like that one colonization-guy". You're claiming this (well, in fact you're claiming we're all like this) guy's still stuck in the past in his mindset.
You're just as stuck in the past too if you generalize like this.
Of course two cultures which developed in very different ways would think some things of the other one is weird. That one guy thinks it's weird to see vultures eating the corpse of one's body, don't you think it's weird we stuff bodies in a box and be okay with it ?

As some here who've been kind enough or rather, sensible enough, better take the time to explain why it's done this way and why you (we) shouldn't think it's "weird" if you know about it and wish people to actually know about it so they don't think it's weird.
Glad to see @Tikibo thought the same thing and thanks to @kazaddum and @Vickamoose for actually explaining the "why" of this Sky Burial practice (I definitely didn't know about it, in my mountains we used to bury the deceased close to a young tree, not that different on the "cycle of life" but very different in practice).

I have read about sky burial, but nothing I read suggested it would be an open display with people watching as a body gets eaten by vultures. It ought to be some enclosed or high platform. But of course I only read about it cursorily compared to some student of history or cultural anthropology. When performed with respect, in my Western opinion it's objectively no stranger a custom than any practiced over here (burning/burying/embalming). The corpse itself is already past caring, the handling of the body only matters to the family and friends of the dead. The only really questionable ritual is cannibalism due to the health hazard.

When I see someone who looks rich and naive and has a beautiful bride... I scream 'go explode', usually.
