Depends, a few of the people I mentioned went with their lives with domineering/commanding/controlling life partners and stuff. And I definitely know a very close friend of mine who is still looking for that someone who will "own" them.

Also pretty sure there are some menheras out there that would definitely like that(regardless if it's bad for them or not).

It's better for them to be seen by the public as defending themselves than instigating the fight, regardless if the cult/church/religion is doing it for a "righteous" reason.

Also I doubt they're really on any sort of danger(the only one in danger is the nun that was used as a spy) so playing the passive hand is the best play.

Fanatics are the "My way, or the highway" type "philosophers". There's no pleasing them whatever you do, unless you cave in to their exact demands. So it's useless to even try.

There are more people like that than you imagined even irl. Some criminals committed a crime just to be jailed because they don't know a better way to live. That's a common story everywhere.
