On pg 23 shouldn't it be northeast? If they moved northwest over the altai mountains they should be moving away from the kherlen river.

Gosh, this series is so fascinating. I really love the art style. It's such a shame it's so underrated, it feels like a series that will be stumbled upon in the future as an obscure, hidden gem. Thank you for translating!
Looks like it was influenced by Mariane Satrapi's Persepolis

The "sage" is Daoist master Qiu Chuji (Master Changchun). The manga is following the historical records very nicely.
Yeah, and his cameo is thematically appropriate because he traveled through the destroyed Khwarazmian city of Balkh on his way to visit Genghis Khan and became one of the early foreign guests who tried to nudge the Mongols towards maybe not killing everyone (he has an aside with Temujin where he tries to gently criticize him for executing Muslims who try to bathe in the rivers before prayer). It, uh, did not work.
