Nope, look at the author's previous works (Dead Tube, Tomodachi Game, etc.). It's definitely their own choice.

The first chapter was pretty useless, as per course for isekai, but the second chapter was actually not bad.
The fantasy world is nonsensical though. How the guys with swords can cut them so easily if fights have to obey the silly rules?

I'm pretty sure its because that exchange wasn't treated an actual fight by the game world and as such, the rules don't apply there.

Think of it as fighting a boss in a bossfight and beating it only for the boss to just wipe you in a cutscene.
