I'm surprised he doesn't have poison-resistant slimes, or tries to feed a little bit of meat to some of the generic ones so he can discreetly (remotely?) detoxify them to let them gain poison resistance.

IMO, having the meat be inedible was a good idea story-wise. That way the students have to leave it behind (Yūji doesn't want to stand out even more by detoxifying in front of the others) and the slimes are appropriately rewarded for their work. He's being a black employer right now and it's weighing on my conscience.
