@criver My point is that being an isekai story is not an inherently irredeemable setback. If I was to bring out my top 20 manga/light novels, well over 50% of it would be isekai because I do love the premise a lot. Yes, 95% of isekai is bad, but the 5% that's good is really good.

Seems it is a setback 95% (note that I am using this arbitrary percentage only because you picked it) of the time as you have noticed already. The issue is that it is really easy to replace plot with bs wish-fulfillment, and there will still be people that will buy it since people like to self-insert as an op character however ridiculous the premise may be. It's basically mental masturbation 95% of the time. Isekai just present 'authors' with enough pitfalls that the majority of manga turn into garbage.
Can you bring out those top 20 good manga isekai? I'd like to have a look.

@criver Honestly, I've never tried to compile a top manga/light novel list before today, but this is what I came up with. Some of the rankings are probably a bit questionable because I haven't seen them in a while and there are a lot of novels that I never logged into my novelupdates reading list and have since forgotten about. Either way, I ended up having 12.5 isekai stories in my top 20. Granted, a lot of them are filling up the 10-20 slots, but I was not lying originally.

Keep in mind that being on this list doesn't mean that it's flawless it just means I like what it does. For instance, "Tate no Yuusha" gets pretty shit later on, but the first 50 chapters are still good enough to be worth its spot. "World's Strongest Rearguard" is pretty wish-fulfillment-ish but its depiction of a video game world is amazing.

I know exactly half of the manga you listed, seem kinda random for best 20 but maybe that's just me. I'll definitely check out some of the ones I don't know though. The issues with isekai, even in the ones you listed, are ever-present. Granted, to a lesser extent than what we have here, but the quality issues are obvious. That's just the unfortunate reality of isekai.
On a side note I would recommend you Oyasumi Punpun, even if it's a lot darker than even Koe no Katachi.

@criver You know, I actually forgot about Punpun cuz like I said, it was one of those that I read ages ago. There were definitely some real high points especially that part where he masturbates in the park and when he turns into a pyramid. But I have to say that the cult sub-plot made absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

Still, now that I remember it, I'd probably put it at number 7, shove everything down and take out Kaguya.

Also, I didn't really know what MDList was before just now so I just had it on private cuz whatever. Anyway, I just put it to public now.

It does, next to the score in parentheses. You just didn't put a score for a lot of what you read resulting in --, but for example for the female knight manga your score is available.
