They are based on Nobunaga's Ambition video game, though it uses Valor in that game, which basically the same as Bravery.

Someone who's good at leading army, like Nobunaga(which basically employ a huge number of peasant infantry) have big number on Leadership, but someone with more renown in the battle itself, like Shingen and Kenshin, have bigger number in the Valor/Bravery.
