But to them that doesn't matter, the only person whose view matter to them is the princess.
So even if somehow they think she permitted this plan, all that need to happen for them is that she's there to welcome them 'home' and worry about their injuries and any doubt would immediately go away.

Because she's the only one who treat them as 'normal'.

Heck, the kingdom can shift the 'blame' of this incident to themselves and get these two extra attached to the princess by telling them that the princess was not told of this plan, and once she knew she VERY vehemently disapproved.
After all, she IS still the princess of the kingdom, even if these two hate the king, so long as they're loyal to the princess and she to the kingdom, then in a way the kingdom still own those two.

@karolyn they're dealing with a foreign country's royalty that's has no problems with trying to infiltrate their Royal palace to kidnap/steal import national level military assets...

They're making a case to damned strong that they can openly stomp on that other country and no other country can step in to stop them since that level of offense is unquestionably divisive... So long as proof is solid enough.

lutz and theo know what's up, obviously. that's how lutz had those stones. they needed to catch them in the act so they'd have proof the other kingdom was involved, as some of y'all guessed. why only catch the traitor when you can catch the big fish??? it's pretty smart actually.

In the end, the Princess won't be captured and thus, they won't be able to threaten them effectively (unless a twist happens). They might be able to use one another's lives as temporary collateral, but they will turn on them the moment opportunity strikes. If they had captured the princess as a hostage, then perhaps things would be different. That's likely why the princess is being protected. She is their one grave weakness.
