EDIT 2: There are lots of people who doesn't even touch anime/manga that has the harem tag because they despise the romantic/s*xual type and they miss out on plenty of entertainment that they could actually have enjoyed (and the manga/anime industry also looses out because of it).
There are also plenty of people who like the romantic/s*xual harem types but don't care for the purely "platonic" kinds and feel cheated by the use of the tag.

"Manga/anime industry loses out because people don't want to read/watch harem garbage" is such an insane take i honestly can't even

I grew up reading any manga i got my hands on (and i do mean the old times with some cr*appily translated scans in a zip file downloaded from god knows where) and by now i know harem has literally nothing to offer because even if the story starts out good, it's gonna be ruined with the same shi*ty harem story tropes and a bunch of 2d girls(whose brains are often offline) all falling madly in love with the bland and boring mc, what i avoid in harem is not romance - romance is extremely hard to avoid if avoiding ecchi and harem takes priority, i avoid harem because of horrible writing so it's impossible that I'm "missing out on enjoyment" of reading trash

Anime and manga industry "losing out" because of people don't want to try reading harem sounds like maybe they should try producing other genres

Wow... you could really take up the role of Drax if something ever happens to Dave Bautista.

You completely missed the point that there's a lot of manga/anime that is tagged as "Harem" simply because the MC has 2+ companions/friends of the opposite gender, without any hint of love, romance (well, sometimes there's 1 interest, the rest are friends), ecchi, "harem tropes" (and what you call horrible writing) etc but they get get overlooked by people like you who knows they don't like the usual "harem".
