I also wished the authors could research about food and tech a little more, humans have beem baking fruits in ovens and fires, frying meats, pies and doughs since old Babylonian times, it wasn't "every day" food or that acessible of course, but you get it.
"I wish the authors had researched the food and tech more" is a complaint that applies to like 99% of isekai that involves any sort of recipe inventing. Authors always seem to assume that everyone in the past was just stupid or something and never experimented with food. Or, even worse, that local people would for some reason completely neglect some edible thing that requires some amount of preparation that our isekai protag must teach them to use.

I think the worst example of this I've ever seen was this one manga where the explanation for why all the food was so bad was "since our world has magic and yours didn't, your world must have focused on developing food while we focused on developing magic!" Which is the stupidest reasoning I've ever heard in my life. Making food taste good has been a driving factor in global geopolitics for millenia- many advancements were made specifically for the sake of food. Food is the single most important factor in the world, and you're telling me it never occured to these bozos to salt their meat because they were too busy casting abracadabra?! Just completely illogical.

Only explanation for that one is that they mean food preservation techniques, it may be expensive, but you don't need to smoke your meat for anything other than flavor, if you have a bag that keeps everything fresh.

I think it's great that you're willing to give the story I was talking about the benefit of the doubt- because obviously my account is going to be biased and thus leave out certain information- but I want to clarify that in context they were very much talking about the food's flavour.

Uh, yeah, if you don't have to worry about preservation, then salting, pickling, and smoking, are just flavor enhancers.

Got problems? Sue the person responsible! If that's even possible...
