Interesting, I imagine the monkey they ate was one that had been driven away for abnormal behavior. Coupled with the behaviors seemingly transferring down to the novelist, I wonder if this is some sort of parasite that gets the victim to fatten itself up so that predators find it to be more appealing to eat and therefore find a new host for the parasite. And once it reaches humans, the self-made apex predators, the victims have no choice but to end things themselves, as predators are too scarce and humans wouldn't be guaranteed to eat them.

On page 1, what was the original title in the raw?

If it was 「死ね」, how can it be read as "Die" with the hiragana character present? Or was it a different character that has the same reading? (I don't know much Japanese, so sorry if it's a dumb question)

My apologies for the confusion - even I struggled to translate this due to its mix of English and Japanese wordplay.

The original title in the raw is 'Sine Die' (or 'Shine Die') - written in English. It plays on a pun because 死ね is pronounced 'shine' in romanized Japanese. This also directly translates to 'die' or 'to die' in English. Maybe I shouldn't have said "read as" but instead "translated as."

I've seen this premise in 6 or 7 titles that are already available on here alone but somehow I never get tired of these brain altering parasites.
