I think the mangaka was making fun of the cliche in Hollywood zombie movies : the black guy / Mexican guy / South American guy is sacrificing his life so that the white girl that he loves , can live happily ever after with another white guy .

In short : in those movies , the minorities die first , only white people can survive until the end , lol .
