I think someone stated this, but it bears repeating: The guy already had his own mountain of emotional/mental issues. ALL OF WHICH he personally shelved in order to take care of someone whom foisted themselves into his hands.

Taku shouldn't say that Megumi is wholly responsible for his situation, sure she cling to him because only he can understand her (technically, he can due his own issues), but he has chosen to do because he felt attached to her not only to help her.

Megumi was hospitalised several times, whenever she had an attack, parents threw her there and although puped her with drugs, couldn't help her because they didn't understood her. She needs both medical and personal support.
