Honestly, her mother is justified and this is a logical solution.
Tbf, Shizuka does speak very softly and thus tends to not speak much, which caused her to lose herself in the world of books.

Kinda feel bad for the mom even, she must've been extremely happy her daughter didn't turn out like her, only to find out she was wrong. Fortunately, Rentarou will prove she wasn't entirely wrong!

I don't think the mom is going to be portrayed as a supervillain next chapter. Any parent knows not being able to talk will have heavy negative ramifications later in Shizuka's life. It's why doctors stress child development checks and talking is one of them.

Also I think Rentarou is going to take the admirable approach and make a deal to help Shizuka talk more. I am predicting a SERIOUS but HEARTWARMING chapter next.
